The reality of the Surinamian and Guianan population...

... is probably largely dependent on the time scale of the analysis

South-American studies

The spatial scale for studies

From nest number to female number… the way is difficult

Temporal fluctuations in these parameters could be of major importance

Statistical caveats when using the nest numbers as a turtle abundance index

A way to correct for this relationship

Temporal autocorrelation on the nest number

Example: Correlation between nest numbers for 15 years in Guianas and Sandy-Point (US Virgind Sandy-Point (US Virgin Islands)

What is the reason of the correlation ?

Test of the phase shifts similarities

The correlation between Guianas and Sandy-Point temporal series of nest numbers was simply due to the temporal autocorrelation which produced a similar +-+-+-+ pattern of nest numbers in both locations. As the temporal autocorrelation is simply a consequence of the reproductive biology of leatherbacks that nest every two years on average, the only correct conclusion is simply that leatherback nests were analyzed in both locations !

Conclusion for South-American leatherbacks
